John Treacy in Profile

My painting career has developed over the past twenty years.    The first efforts were experiments with dry and oil pastel. My thinking at the time was to take the easiest medium and see how things develop. I thought, nothing could be easier than pushing pure pigment into paper; no water or turpentine or mediums; no washing or cleaning brushes. This was my initial mindset, but in retrospect, this was not the best attitude when you are aspiring to do good art. As time went on, I have come to enjoy painting with oils on canvas. I like still life subjects and the challenge of painting the human form. I have experimented in some abstract art and find this genera most challenging.   So far in my art development, I do not regard myself as an established artist. The potential is there but I have been distracted with finishing and arts degree at Melbourne University this year. Being a senior now, I may have left my chances a bit late developing a career in painting. Nevertheless, I enjoy the art I am able to do at present.

The five works submitted have all been executed over the past three or four years. They are a varied example of what I like to do. The works are all oil on canvas paintings in different styles. I particularly enjoyed painting the Out of the Tomb picture featuring the risen Christ emerging from the confines of the tomb, a piece of mystery. I hope you enjoy the five paintings.
